Indian Army Day is celebrated on January 15th each year to commemorate the day when General (later Field Marshal) K.M. Cariappa took over as the first Indian commander-in-chief of the Indian Army in 1949. The day is celebrated to pay tribute to the soldiers who have served and continue to serve in the Indian Army, and to honor their sacrifices and dedication to protecting the nation. The day is marked by a military parade and ceremony in New Delhi, as well as other events and activities across the country to recognize and appreciate the contributions of the Indian Army.
