It is also celebrated in Maharashtra as Makar Sankranti where people prepare sweet dishes such as tilgul, til-ladoo, and chikki.


The festival is considered as an auspicious time to start new things, visit temples and seek blessings from the gods. It is also believed to bring good luck and prosperity to people.
