The SNMP Inform message is similar to the SNMP Trap message, but with a key difference that the SNMP Inform message is an acknowledgment-based message. When an SNMP agent sends an Inform message to an NMS, it expects an acknowledgment from the NMS that confirms the receipt of the message. This acknowledgment message is called an SNMP Response message.
The SNMP Inform message is used in situations where the SNMP agent wants to ensure that the notification has been received by the NMS. This makes the SNMP Inform message more reliable than the SNMP Trap message, which is not acknowledgment-based and may result in lost or missed notifications.
