Loan vs lend?

"Loan" and "lend" are two similar words with slightly different meanings and uses.

"Lend" is a verb that means to give something to someone for a short period of time, expecting that it will be returned. For example: "Can you lend me your pencil for a minute?"

"Loan" can be both a noun and a verb. As a noun, it refers to an amount of money or something else that is borrowed, usually with the understanding that it will be paid back with interest. For example: "I need to take out a loan to buy a car." As a verb, it means to give or allow the use of something temporarily. For example: "I will loan you my car for the weekend."

In general, "lend" is used when someone is actively giving something to someone else, while "loan" is used when someone is describing the act of borrowing something.
