Modak is a traditional Indian sweet that is popular during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Here is a recipe for making modak at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rice flour

  • 1 cup water

  • 1/2 cup grated coconut

  • 1/2 cup jaggery

  • 2 tablespoons ghee

  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, bring the water to a boil. Add the rice flour to the pan and stir continuously until the mixture comes together and forms a dough.

  2. Remove the dough from the pan and let it cool for a few minutes. Once it is cool enough to handle, knead the dough until it is smooth and pliable.

  3. In a separate pan, melt the ghee over medium heat. Add the grated coconut and jaggery to the pan and cook, stirring frequently, until the jaggery has melted and the mixture is well combined.

  4. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cardamom powder.

  5. Take a small ball of the dough and roll it into a thin circle. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of the circle and fold the edges of the dough up and around the filling to form a dumpling shape. Pinch the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside.

  6. Repeat this process until you have used up all of the dough and filling.

  7. Steam the modak in a steamer or in a large pot with a few inches of boiling water for about 15 minutes, or until they are cooked through.

  8. Serve the modak warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
